I know a little about Roger Norman through a local business I do work for who has done work for Roger in the past. Roger Norman and his father developed much of the land that South Meadows/Double Diamond in South Reno now sits on and the land that the new Wal-Mart distribution plant in McCarran, Nevada (halfway between Reno and Fernley on I-80) now sits on. See for yourself how plush this guy lives. His 7,500 sq ft home comes complete with a stuffed giraffe sitting in his living room. Go ahead MTV... try out-pimping that.
What I did not know until this morning is that he's a big-time GOP donor who has donated thousands to Republican politicians here in Nevada and has donated thousands to George W. Bush and the RNC.

Good Work!
Roger Norman Drives a kick a** trophy truck in the baja 1000!! (no that is not a big game animal)
He's one of the "R"s in Double R Blvd. Don't know who the other one is. Maybe his Dad, Don R. Norman.
The 100 acres of wetlands that was mitigated for the Double Diamond development is slowly being squeezed out of its water sources. Dubbed "Wetlands 16" by the Army Corps of Engineers, they will revert the protected status to "upland" (non wetland) by as early as 2016, which means Racing Roger gets to develop that land to his heart's content. One wonders if his developer friends aren't helping to divert water away from Wetlands 16 in their developments to the higher elevated west, such as Mountain Gate, with the city's blessing.
Access to 20 acres of prime commercial real estate on the corner of Double R and Damonte Ranch Blvds was in court for nearly a decade with a final ruling that it was protected wetlands and could not be developed by Mr. Norman of race car and safari fame.
Side note: Rumor has it that Roger Norman grew up a Democrat but flipped to the dark side when it benefitted his business and bagging inclinations. Hey, if there's no green house effect or endangered species, that gives a man license to kill a white rhino which, if true, ought to have landed him in jail with a fine that would smart even his record millions.
Now that the land on the west side of Double R is largely developed into medical and financial businesses in the Reno/Tahoe Tech Center (RTTC -though technical companies are largely absent), Roger will be hungry to feed his safari, racing and political habits with the $$ gotten from that land which he and his father had been trying to develop since 1972 but didn't get permission until Republican Jeff Griffin became mayor in the 1990s.
By the time the 100 acres gets upland status it will be a fitting title because Norman will have nowhere to go but up. Like New York City up unless the peeps get together and pass some development restrictions. Hard to do with development blank check writer Sharon Zadra representing ward 2.
I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I dont know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
